New! Trick-or-treat and dance on little feet!
MAM is always family friendly! After trick-or-treating on Friday evening, feel free to bring your kids in costume to Art on Tap. Enjoy dancing with live DJs from WFUV in Leir Hall and explore the fun contemporary art exhibitions. There will also be children's treats like mini hot dogs with your choice of mustards, juices, ice-cream, and the TAP, the specialty non-alcoholic drink of the night. All children under 12 are free at MAM, as is our policy, with a ticketed adult. Bring your leftover candy!
Explore diverse beers
Amanti Vino will provide tastings of several beers and hard ciders. Learn to appreciate the differences in our varied offerings and discover a new favorite beverage! Revel in the nuances between different lagers and ales and be surprised by stouts with dessert undertones, such as chocolate and espresso. The final beer will be blind taste-tested in both bottle and keg, to test your knowledge and discover your container of choice. Food pairings from Events by Joni will be associated with each part of the tasting. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available throughout the evening.
See contemporary art
There will be two contemporary special exhibitions on view during the friendraiser/fundraiser: Marina Zurkow: Friends, Enemies, and Others and The Spectacular of Vernacular. Marina Zurkow: Friends, Enemies, and Others launches New Directions, a new series of contemporary art exhibitions at MAM. This exhibition features the digital animation and works on paper of Brooklyn-based artist and 2011 Guggenheim Fellow Marina Zurkow. The Spectacular of Vernacular, organized by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, focuses on the role of vernacular forms in the work of 25 contemporary artists. The term vernacular is used to describe regional forms of expression that tend to be more homegrown than high-end. Familiar items such as dime store plaques to snapshot photographs to billboards become nuanced symbols in the work of these artists, offering clues about who we are and where we live.
Party!
Share an evening with friends at MAM. The event will feature dancing in Leir Hall, with music provided by WFUV (90.7 FM). DJ Rita Houston, WFUV music director and host of The Whole Wide World with Rita Houston on Friday nights, and DJ Russ Borris, WFUV assistant music director and music director of WFUV’s indie music service The Alternate Side, will be performing.
