THE CUTE, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY

The MAM contemporaries inaugural event, The Cute, the Bad, and the Ugly: A Unique Participatory Food Performance with Artist Marina Zurkow and Exotic Food Expert Gene Rurka, was held on January 12, 2012. This event was inspired by the exhibition Marina Zurkow: Friends, Enemies, and Others, the first exhibition in MAM's New Directions contemporary art series, and particularly Zurkow's print series Heraldic Crests for Invasive Species (2011). Over 40 participants listened to a lecture by the artist and tasted the invasive species Rabbit, Knotweed, and Boar catered by Gene Rurka for an eye-opening experience challenging how we think about food, animals, nature, and culture.
