Art on Tap

November 4, 2011

Despite the snowstorm and power outage earlier in the week, MAM welcomed 370+ guests to Art on Tap, a beer tasting and contemporary art celebration. Amanti Vino provided a selection of beers and hard ciders that challenged taste buds and expectations. DJ's Rita Houston and Russ Borris of WFUV kept the guests on their feet, dancing the night away. After Montclair rescheduled Halloween, MAM welcomed children to the event. The costumed trick-or-treaters also enjoyed candy, snacks, and dancing.

The Montclair Art Museum (MAM) came alive in a burst of floral beauty for five glorious days in May. From May 11 to 15, more than 2,500 visitors strolled through the galleries to experience Art in Bloom. This five-day biennial festival of fine art, extravagant floral displays, and special events has become a signature MAM celebration. For this occasion, MAM invited floral designers to create an arrangement inspired by a work of art in our collection. This year, more than 40 floral designers from the tristate region
interpreted 36 works of art from the Museum’s permanent holdings.

A lecture and luncheon, on Thursday, May 12, featured a floral demonstration by Manhattan floral designers Brian Bowman and Dan Dahl.  On Saturday, May 14, the Museum celebrated Art in Bloom with an Andy Warhol Factory Party gala, inspired by MAM’s exhibition Warhol and Cars: American Icons. The Museum honored two extraordinary women at our events: Helen Geyer was our luncheon honoree and Jacqueline McMullen was honored at our gala. The co-chairs of Art in Bloom were Deborah Davis, Gretchen Prater, and Carol Wall. The honorary chair was Mary Mochary. Funds raised are used to support the Museum’s exhibitions and education programs.

Jazz for Art’s Sake

On Saturday, May 15, 2010, the Montclair Art Museum (MAM) held a fundraiser gala entitled A Force for Change: Jazz for Art’s Sake. The monies raised at this gala will be used to continue MAM’s commitment to empowering visitors through experience with art.

Over 225 guests were treated to a delightful cocktail reception and a sumptuous three-course meal provided by Laurence Craig Catering. Entertainment for the evening was provided by Montclair’s own Jazz House Kids and Christian McBride and Melissa Walker. Auctioneer, Jonathan Terrio, kept the live auction moving with tickets to a Broadway show, a Chanel handbag and vacation trips of a lifetime to Tuscany and Africa, just to mention a few.

The event raised $10,635 for the Nathaniel C. Harris, Jr., Scholarship Endowment Fund, doubling the amount of scholarships offered to deserving students each year, while additional funds raised will, for the first time, provide scholarships to SummerArt Camp for eight families who otherwise would not be able to afford it.
