Classes that are listed as CLOSED are not available for registration at this time either because they are full, because they are not running, or because they are not open for registration yet.

Animals! People! Places! Things! Come and explore these topics and beyond while creating paintings, drawings, sculpture, prints, and collages. For our youngest artists, this course introduces the studio atmosphere and art-making techniques through the emphasis in imagination and the study of texture, line, form, color, shape, and patterms, and other cultures and artists. These aspiring artists will create their first masterpieces while forming lasting memories with help from moms, dads, or primary caregivers. Class limited to 12 students.

101KE Studio Explorers
Tuesdays, 4:15 – 5 p.m.

The perfect introductory class for our younger students, this course will include painting, drawing, collage and printmaking, and some sculpture. Emphasis will be placed on imagination, creative expression and skills that will help children to develop hand/eye coordination.

201KM POP Art!
Tuesdays, 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.

Engage your child's sense of humor and imagination while looking at art from the Pop Art movement. In this fun environment children will create their own interpretations of works by famous Pop artists. The wacky colors, exaggerated proportions, and dynamic designs of Pop Art will be explored while creating sculptures, prints, drawings, and paintings.

Wednesdays, 4 – 5 p.m.

Students will travel the globe with each new project inspired by cultures and art styles throughout the world. African, Australian, Central and South American, Native American, American, European, Indian, and Asian art will be studied. Students will emulate the art and artists of each of the regions. Animals, nature, and people will provide subject matter for the 2-D and 3-D projects.

This class will explore the exciting universe of printmaking. Etchings, monoprints, silkscreen, and stamping will all be explored. Learn how people from all over the world have used these techniques to make multiples to design fabric, print money, make posters and artwork while making your own series of prints.

This course will introduce various materials and mediums including drawing, painting and sculpture through the theme of real life animals and imaginary creatures. Projects will explore the use of color, line, shape, texture, pattern, and setting.

Children will be introduced to many fine art techniques that use childhood themes as a springboard, and will use everyday experiences as inspiration. The young artists' favorite people, places, animals, and things are some tof the themes explored. Painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, collage, and printmaking will be taught in an encouraging atmosphere.

Robots, rocket ships, and race cars! The magic of machines will fuel this fun and whimsical exploration of two and three-dimensional art. Students will be guided through an imaginative series of projects that incorporate both traditional and nontraditional materials to create personal sculptural expressions of machines from both the past and present.

Children love making choices, and every child has a story to tell. This class will nurture these tendencies while gaining knowledge through museum visits, multicultural learning, art history, and the use of fine art materials and techniques in a fun and supportive atmosphere. We will paint, draw, sculpt, print, and discover mixed media.

The creation of meaningful art from clay brings happiness and satisfaction to young artists. This hands-on class uses a variety of clay and sculptural techniques to produce creative and unique objects, including several pieces to be fired in a kiln. Using a multicultural approach, students will use ceramic clay, and colorful glazes to create pots, masks, creatures and animals.

Experience the seasons through art! Students will depict the four seasons in projects using a variety of media including drawing, painting, and collage. They will also explore three-dimensional art to express the beauty and whimsy of the changing seasons. Works of art depicting the seasons throughout history will be used as reference, as well as works in the Museum's collection.

This course is designed to stimulate young artists’ thoughts and discussions about art through the process of exploring different aesthetic approaches. Learn about art history through gallery visits and reference materials while creating fine art projects that you could add to any portfolio! In an inviting atmosphere students will feel confident about their artistic decisions while learning fine art techniques such as drawing, painting, clay sculpture, and printmaking among others. Inspiration will blossom from students’ individual creativity while learning about artists from different cultures throughout history.

300FI Fashion Illustration
Mondays, 4 - 5 p.m.

Style is who you are! Students in class will learn the exaggeration and enhancement of the fashion figure by studying a live model. Other sessions will be an introduction to fabrics, including folds and drapes, as well as textures and patterns. Model fees included.
300KD Cartoon Drawing

Are you crazy for cartoons? Students will learn to design imaginative and expressive characters, as well as draw their favorites. This class includes a discussion of storyboards, a history of cartoon drawing, and strong foundation of basic drawing techniques.

From mosaics to mobiles and murals, this class will explore a range of art made from pieces into a whole. Our lives are made up of many different experiences which when put together make us whole. With an emphasis on expressing your life in art, students will work on both collaborative and individual projects including hand-painted mosaics, 3D mosaics, a 3D clay mural, collages and mobiles.

For kids who love comics, this class will explore what it takes to create an original comic book. From designing super heroes, their allies, villains, costumes and powers to planning, drawing, inking and coloring their own comic books. In addition to an overview of the elements of comic book making, including some history of comics, students will also learn traditional drawing techniques, such as perspective, shading and line. Students will take home a color copy of their comic book to share with their fans!
100KC Claymation (Ages 10-12)

Do you love movies and animation? In this course, students have the opportunity to be an animator, director, producer, editor, sculptor, illustrator, and writer. By modeling the story in clay, and using a series of digital images, students will work together to create a unique claymation film. There will be a screening at the end of the session, and each student will receive a DVD of the film to take home.

Children have a unique way of seeing the world. This class will focus on activities that will lead students to make striking images that convey their personal vision. We will look at photographs throughout the history of the medium as a starting point to learn about, and experiment with, framing, composition, light, perspective and photo editing. There will be time in the class to critique work and develop the language to discuss photography. Please bring your own digital camera of any kind with an empty camera card and charged battery/batteries. There will be assignments each week, so students must have a digital camera and be able to print one image for each class.

Handmade Mother's Day Greetings & Gifts Workshop (Ages 7+)

Spend the afternoon making a special gift for a special lady! This hands-on workshop will focus on creating one-of-a-kind Mother's Day cards and gifts using a range of collage materials such as papers, buttons, glitters, ribbons, old sheet music, paints, etc. Students are encouraged to bring interesting odds and ends from home to use as embellishments. Possibilities include adorned boxes, picture frames, stationary, frame-worthy cards, and other keepsakes.
Silkscreened T-Shirts! (Ages 8+)
Sunday, May 16
1 p.m. - 5 p.m.
$40 members, $60 non-members
Create your own wearable art! In this fun workshop for kids, we will learn how to use a non-toxic printing process to make silkscreened t-shirts. First, students qill design their own graphic, and then it will be printed onto a t-shirt. Multiple prints may be made to create layered designs using several colors. All materials provided.
